Can Agriculture feed the world?

From the present world population of 6 billion, 1 billion is underfed or suffering from hunger, in a world of plenty. To a large extent the hungry concerns people living in rural areas in developing countries. This implies a distribution and access problem. On top of that, it is expected that the world population will increase to more than 9 billion people by 2050. This implies that the increase of the production of food has a high priority.
